Bachelor’s Degree in Adventure and Outdoor Education

Englanninkielinen “Bachelor of Adventure and Outdoor Education” -koulutus tarjoaa aidoissa ympäristöissä tapahtuvaa kokemuksellista oppimista, jossa hyödynnetään seikkailukasvatuksen menetelmiä. 

Koulutus antaa samat valmiudet toimia ehkäisevässä työssä sekä nuoriso- ja järjestötyössä kuin suomenkielinen yhteisöpedagogi (AMK)-tutkinto. Lisäksi seikkailukasvattaja voi työllistyä erilaisten ryhmien ohjaajaksi tai elämys-, luonto- ja ulkoilmapalveluihin. 

Mikä on seikkailukasvattaja? 

Pedagogisen osaamisen ja ryhmänohjaustaitojen lisäksi koulutuksessa painotetaan opiskelijan johtamis-, viestintä-, vuorovaikutus- ja menetelmäosaamisen kehittämistä. Seikkailukasvattaja taitaa eri seikkailukasvatuksen menetelmät ja tietää, kuinka niitä hyödynnetään turvallisesti ja tavoitteellisesti eri kohderyhmien kanssa. Opiskeltavia lajitaitoja ovat mm. melonta, kiipeily ja köysitoiminta sekä retkeily ja vaeltaminen eri vuodenaikoina ja ympäristöissä. 

Tietoa opiskelusta 

Opiskelu tapahtuu päiväopintoina Nurmijärven kampuksella. Luontokohteissa toteutettavien jaksojen lisäksi työssäoppiminen erilaisissa harjoittelupaikoissa on oleellinen osa opintoja. Koulutuksessa hyödynnetään myös kesälukukausia ja siihen haetaan tammikuun yhteishaussa. 

Bachelor of Adventure and Outdoor Education is a degree programme offering experiential learning in authentic learning environments using the methodology of adventure education. 

The degree prepares you to work in both preventive work and youth and organizational work in the same way as the Finnish-language community educator bachelor’s degree. An adventure educator can also find employment as a guide or as an expert of nature and outdoor services and experiences. 

Who is an Adventure Educator? 

Alongside pedagogical competencies and group leading skills, the programme emphasizes the development of the student’s leadership skills as well as their communicative, interactive, and methodological skills. An adventure educator masters a wide range of adventure education methods and knows how to implement them with various target groups in a safe and goal-oriented way. Some of the learned skillset include canoeing, climbing and advanced rope work as well as hiking and trekking in varied environments in all seasons. 

Practical Information 

Besides the full-time studies at the beautiful Nurmijärvi campus and studies arranged on-site in breathtaking nature destinations, workplace learning in various internships is a significant part of the studies. Please note that summer semesters are also utilised in the programme. The application period for the degree programme is the joint application in January. Students from outside the EU/EEA area are subject to a tuition fee.

Nurmijärvi campus (Kotorannantie 49, 05250 Kiljava, Finland, Europe): Nurmijärvi is located in Kiljava, just over an hour from Helsinki. The area has food services, classrooms, leisure facilities and a dormitory. The peaceful and close to nature environment of the campus, which is located by the lake, is also suitable for adventure education and nature hiking. Googlemap
